Open Letter to Rep. Mike Thompson, 1st Congressional District of CA

Posted on April 17, 2009

After leaving a voicemail at his office this afternoon, I sent this letter to Representative Mike Thompson from the 1st Congressional District in California. We encourage you to contact your local representative about the economic policies pushed forward by the current administration.

Mr. Thompson,

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to public service throughout the years.  I understand there are many personal sacrifices that you must have made to pursue a career as a public servant.

I have been both a student and a part-time professor in the areas of Economics and Finance.  Additionally, I have started my own company in the past, and am currently working with a new venture that is quickly growing and has been fortunate enough to add two new members to our staff in recent months.  I’m sure you can appreciate this accomplishment during the current economic climate.

I am writing to you to respectfully request that you support any and all legislative measures that promote smaller government and lower taxes on individuals and the business community.  I hope that you will strongly consider the long-term implications of increasing our country’s national debt to sponsor projects and measures pushed forth by our current President that move our country towards greater dependence on government and the introduce measures that by definition push our political and economic systems towards socialism.   As a homeowner, taxpayer, businessman, educator, husband, and future father, the current course of action taken by the Obama administration is nearly intolerable and certainly unsustainable in the long term.

The First Congressional District is vastly diverse and unique district compared to most others across the country, and thus you clearly have many individual interests to represent.  However, economic theory, and more importantly, economic history has shown that lower taxes levels and less government intervention leads to more prosperous economic times for every free society.

Thank you for your time and for listening to my voice, and I invite you to contact me directly should you wish to discuss my viewpoints in more detail.

Respectfully submitted…
